Northern Lights

Northern lights in Switzerland – January 20, 2026

On the evening of January 18, 2026, and during the night into January 19, 2026, a strong geomagnetic storm triggered by an X1.9-class solar flare from sunspot group 4341 produced a rare display of the northern lights over Switzerland. Unfortunately, I missed the main event. On the following night, however, faint auroral activity was still visible and could be photographed.
