Fig.22 - The historic alpine hotel Grimsel Hospiz (hospice) made out of granite sitting on a plateau called "Nollen" close to the road to Grimsel Pass.
It is situated approximately 6,500 feet (2,000 m) above sea level. The first Hospiz was probably built between 1382 and 1397 (at least one source documents a
hostel as early as 1142). For centuries, it was a hostel for poor people crossing the Grimsel Pass. In 1852, it was burned down by its innkeeper Peter Zybach
in an act of insurance fraud and had to be rebuilt. In 1929-1932, the Hospiz had to be rebuilt at a slightly higher location due to a large
hydropower station. The foundations of the old Hospiz disappeared in the artificial Grimselsee ("lake Grimsel"). In 1932, the Grimsel Hospiz became the first
electrically heated hotel in Europe. Nikon Z6, Nikon MF 19mm f/4E PC Tilt-Shift lens.
